What is the ruling of performing the aqiqah?

The ‘aqiqah’ entails shaving the head of a newborn and carrying out a slaughter.
“The aqiqah is not done for a boy or a girl with us and with the Shafi’is the aqiqah is sunnah.”[1]

“The aqiqah has been abrogated by the udhiyah (sacrifice of Eid).”[2]
