Q: If a husband leaves the family home , and in his absence sends the first Islamic divorce paper in the post signed and witnessed , and then the wife has sat the three months iddah / and the wife has never heard from the sharia council or the courts why the marriage was ended. Is this a valid divorce ?

A: The iddah is not 3 months, that is only in the case of a menopausal woman who will wait 3 lunar months. For menstruating women, they must perform 3 menstruations. The divorce will be valid though, as long as the husband was sane, although it will very much depend on what was written on the paper.
